As I have been going through my frugal journey I have realized a few thing that have become really important. Number one, being frugal means changing your way of thinking and your lifestyle. This includes planning, time management, home management and personal prioritizing. Number two, when you live this way you tend to think differently then the “normal” person that lives with debt or spends every dollar on whatever they want.
This way of thinking has brought me to a point where my cooking needed a revamp. This included every aspect of my cooking. I am finding that we are having the same few meals over and over and I am getting really tired of them. So I find myself drifting to the easy unhealthy stuff that are the back up meals more and more. I find that seeing that I think differently about things, I do not have any cookbooks that are organized the way I need them to be to make my meal planning and shopping easier. This is part of the reason I am not trying new things. I love to cook, but I am finding myself getting down about it. Many Days I don’t know what to cook and I’m not wanting to meal plan. It just isn’t working for my family and I am finding myself getting stressed out more and more.
So what do you do when you have no one to turn to to help you or nothing to turn to to inspire you??? You start a blog series of course!!!!
This series is going to be my journey in getting myself organized and ready to cook in season! I am doing this in an effort to keep cooking exciting, meal planing easier, and cooking in season a priority without the burn out. To start my journey I will be working on getting my recipe binder organized by season. Then I will start a weekly post about a recipe that is made with in season fruits and veg. This way I am buying things when they are on sale and keeping my budget low.
I wanted to invite each of my readers to join me in this. You can do this as much or as little as you want and you can organize yourself how you would like. I am hoping that through sharing our in season recipes we will each be able to expand our recipes so we have lots to pick from each season and fill our houses with cheap (price not quality) foods that are good for you and fun to make. I hope you will share with me your recipes as I really do need them! If you have a blog please post the recipe on your blog and link it to the post each week. If you do not have a blog please don’t feel nervous about leaving a comment with a recipe or just an update on how you are. I love getting comments from readers and hearing that my posts help others. This is why I do what I do. for all of you, I love to help and knowing I am making a difference in even 1 persons life makes this all worth it.

If you are interested in this series please leave me a comment on the post. I would like to see who is interested and if you have any specific questions you would like answered in the series or any fruits or vegetables you need recipes for, please let me know. If you can’t think of any now, you can let me know on a later week as well. Hope you will join me!
I hope to see this series started by the end of the month or start the first week on Nov.

That is how I've been feeling, too. I have started planning a dinner menu, and when I do, I spend less money and cook better meals. However, if I get behind on planning or if time gets away from me and can't fix dinner in time, I get frustrated and go for the quicker, less healthy alternatives. I'd love to exchange recipes and ideas! I do have a blog, but I'm not sure how to link blog posts to other stuff, so if you can help…
Hey Melissa,
I do agree that cooking in season saves a ton of money. We only eat the produce or veggies that are on sale that week or that we have canned. Luckily my kids eat about any fruit! It is really a change in thought to be an extreme saver!
