Food Storage Friday!!!

by Melissa on October 9, 2009

This week on food storage friday we will be talking about where to store it all.  As a couponer I am sure you have a huge stash of everything you buy.  I think this is very similar to a food storage but you need even more room then just a stock pile.  I say this because when you have a food storage it is usually in cans or other air tight storage.  This isn’t 100% of the time true, but if you are looking for long term food storage you have to be sure you have a long term storage solution for it.

I live in a small area.  We have 3 rooms and a small living room.  Storage for us is really hard.  So we have gotten creative.  We store stuff under every bed and I made a storage in half of my closet to store what we need to have.  We are struggling to figure out a good place to store big bags or wheat or flour or anything like that.  If anyone has an suggestions for that please leave a comment to let me know.

When buying for storage you want to buy in vacuum sealed cans like the #1o cans.  If they aren’t in sealed cans or other storage them it will go bad much faster and wont last.  It is important thought that even if you buy these you are aware of the expiration dates so you can keep it rotated.

I have seen a really neat home made can rotator that fits behind your couch like a table.  You can also make one that could be a side table.  When you do this you can put a table cloth over it so it doesn’t look like a storage shelf.  This is a great storage solution for those in small apts. or with little storage space.

where do you keep your food stored?  do you have some suggestions for those needing some help wit where to store things?
