Food Storage Friday!!!

This week for Food Storage Friday I want to talk a bit about buying more of what you use. This is one of many ways to get a small food storage in your home without thinking much about it.

When I started collecting a food storage I never thought of it as things we eat now. I always pictured big cans of wheat and bland soup mix and such. But when I started to coupon I realized that I can get a 3 month food storage just by buying more then what I needed at the time. This isn’t a quick ting but it is definitely something to shoot for. 3 months is better then nothing and most people can get a new job in a matter of months if they are really trying. ( I am not saying this is 100% of people, I realize it is a bit harder for some right now.) But any storage you can have is great! it will save you money in the long run but it will also make you prepared for whatever is to come.

The main question I get from everyone when it comes to this is how do you know how much to buy? I honestly can’t tell you that. I think it comes from experience and trial and error. The first few times you do it you guess how much you need, but the more you buy, the more you know how much your family uses and you can work on getting only what you need and that your family will use.

It is important when doing this to look at expiration dates on boxes or items. Then think about how much your family might use before that date. Then buy about how much you think you might need and then analyze it when you need more. Don’t be afraid to not have enough because you can always substitute other things or make new recipes with what you do have at home. The more you buy these items you will begin to know how much your family will eat and how much you need to buy so you can use it before it expires.
