Food Storage Friday: Food Storage as a Gift

by Melissa on December 18, 2009

One of the greatest gifts you can give someone is the power of being prepared.  It doesn’t matter if you give them spiritual preparation, mental preparation or physical preparation.  The power to be prepared makes so many things in life easier.

I have often thought of food storage as a lame gift.  I know, I shouldn’t ever think of it that way, but where is the fun in getting packaged food for you to add the the piles under your bed?  Well since starting to help my family be prepared for whatever may happen I realized that giving someone a gift like that wont only bless them with peace now, but it will bless them with a lifetime of peace.

There are 2 ways you could give them this gift as well.  The gift of physically giving an item of food that is packaged properly for storage.  This gives them the supplies they need to be prepared in an emergency.  They don’t need to worry about the time or money it take to acquire a supply.  They then feel peace in knowing they have the food on hand if the need arose.

The second way you could give this gift is to teach them how to use food storage in their meals to keep it rotated.  this helps with only as well.  It helps people form wasting food using it before it goes bad.  This also teaches them to cook from scratch or cook healthier.  I personally like this one better, but maybe a combination of the 2 would be best for newbies!
