I have been thinking all week what I wanted to do to make food storage friday better. I have decided that I want it to be more interactive. I think it is important for everyone to have a storage of food. Especially right now. You really never know what will happen so I think this is super important.
I will still be doing tips and such. I will not be doing a food storage item of the week unless I find a screaming deal that I must tell you about. Instead I want everyone to start where they are and go from there. Get whatever your family eats and store what you can in whatever space you have. I want to hear of your progress and I want to share mine as well. As I learn about different things I want to share what I learn and I want you to do the same.
So I have decided to open this up a bit more. This isn’t just about having a stock pile. It is about having a plan and knowing how much of what you need. It is about knowing how much meat you need, how many hamburger buns you need, and how much mayo you need to feed your family for 2 dinners for the month.
I want to do an inventory of my storage and make a plan to have enough of each item so I can make meals for a month. Basically to get my food organized. I don’t have much room for storage of frozen things, so I probably wont be able to do meat for more then 1 month or so, but I will be sure I have beans to last longer.
So my goal in doing this is to make my plan and know what we have so I have what I need for a month of food storage. Once I reach that I will move on to a 3 month storage and so on. I want to invite anyone who would like to do this with me to join in. If you would like to, leave me a comment and I will be sure to follow along with you so we can work on this together! I will also add a Mr. Linky (when they are working again) each week so if you have a blog you can add your link to share your progress.

I am looking forward to this next week! I have just started building our stock within the past month. I have a great supply of pasta and easy mac, hey its a start! I really want to work on building enough stock to have 30 complete meals.
I am for sure with you on this. I have alot in my pantry and fridge but I too need to organize everything so I can see exactly what I have and I am going to make a list of what all I need for an entire month of food. What I dont have I will stock up on and then will go from there to start having a stock pile of more than a month. So I definately follow you on this and hope that we can both get our food storage in order.
Thanks,

This is great advice – storing what you eat! So many people have stockpiled wheat and rice up the wazoo but have no idea what to do with it. Knowing how to use your food storage in creative ways now will definitely help in the future. One little tip regarding the mayo for your burgers that you mentioned above, purchase the mayo condiment packages in bulk so in the event of a power outage you don't have to open a new jar and let it go to waste.
