Split Pea Soup Recipe on a Budget

  • 1 lb of Dried Split Peas
  • 1 onion Chopped
  • Carrots; cut into slices or chunks however many you would like in the soup
  • Potatoes cut into pieces however many you would like in the soup
  • Ham to taste


  • Open package of peas and sort to be sure there are no rocks or other items in them.  Wash and cover with water and let soak overnight.
  • In the morning drain water and refill adding cubed ham and boil for 1 hour (could be up to 3 if you did not soak overnight) .  Add onion and cook for 30 mins.
  • Add Carrots and cook for 15-20 minutes.
  • Add potatoes and cook until soft.  Add Salt and pepper as needed for taste.
  • Enjoy!!!!  This is great with grilled cheese or rolls or biscuits.
