How We Do It: Savings Jar

When we decided to save for our car, we decided to try to cut our grocery budget even more then we had already done.  We would use all of it if we needed to, but we tried each week to be under budget.

When we did go under budget all the change I had from it would go into a change jar.  This change jar became labeled our savings jar. After a few months I took the jar to the bank and deposited all the money into our savings account.

I recommend that everyone have a savings jar.  This is just a place to put your change and when you fill it up you take the change and deposit it.  It is a slow savings method. but it helps you to have a saving mentality in all you do.  This is a very important thing as you are trying to live on a small budget.

A few months back, we had a tight month.  Things just weren’t matching up and no matter what we did we couldn’t get our budget to work right.  We have tried and prayed a lot that we could remain debt free and live on what we have.  So we went to our savings jar and opened it up.  we were $25.13 under in our budget.  we counted up the savings jar and there was $25.25 in the jar.  exactly what we needed to balance out our budget.  I think you will be blessed as you try your hardest to live in your means and use all you are blessed with.
