Home Organization Tips To Help You Get Organized
Let’s face it, life is busy, sometimes too busy to think about home organization tips so you can find real solutions and get organized.
Getting organized can feel like a huge chore or pain in your side. No one likes that feeling, so why put this enormous burden on yourself when you can take on any project in tiny pieces with tremendous success!
Success is built on planning, so let’s make sure your home organization project is planned for success!
Home organization tips to help you start organizing
Before purchasing new organization bins, or moving the smallest piece of paper, there are some questions that you will need to ask yourself to start the progress! At this phase of planning, there is no need for any precise answer to the questions below. One word is simple enough to take your organizing plan from paper to success!
- How do I want this room to function?
- Ask yourself “how do I wish to feel in this space?”
- How do I want others to feel in my space?
Learn how to declutter your room
After determining how your space will function, it’s time to start pulling everything out because to make progress there has to be an even bigger mess! I know the bigger mess may seem pointless, but it is definitely how to declutter your room and will determine whether a room goes from total chaos to organized bliss!
At this point, everything is out of every crevice in the room, but each item has to be dealt with in an organized fashion. Again, you have to ask yourself some important questions to determine what home organization tips will help you know what to do with all of the stuff.
Ask yourself some questions
- Do I really need this product?
- Do I love this product?
- Am I holding on to this product for sentimental purposes?
- Have I used this product in the last 6-12 months?
- Will I use this product in the next 6-12 months?
- If I don’t need it, is it trash, garage sale worthy, or a donation?
At this stage of the organizing process, you will need to have three bins. These bins can be used boxes, plastic bins you have lying around or simple piles on the floor that are neatly separated from one pile to the next. As each item is questioned it will be placed in the keep, throw away, donation or garage sale piles. If possible, it is best to keep the “keep” pile in a separate area even if that means that they are moved to a different room until you are ready to load it all back in the room.
After each item has been sorted in their prospective pile, remove these items from the room if they are trash or donation. At this point in the process, the room should be cleared out with only the larger items (bed, desk, etc.) left in the room.
Organizing with home storage solutions
Now it’s time to start thinking about home storage solutions! You know, bins, shelving, etc. Keep in mind what your local dollar store has on their shelves as well as taking a trip to the thrift store, or discount stores before spending a ton of money on bins.
As you go through these discount stores, think of ways you can repurpose items to use in your space. For example, the local dollar store may have small stackable bins. You can use these to store pens, markers, crayons, etc. in your office closet.
A small vase can be used as a pen holder on your desk or just as a decorative side table piece in your guest room. It’s 100% functional and cute which brings your style into the room!
Repurpose and reuse as much as possible

After you have found all the necessary organizing bins, shelves, etc., load “like items” into their new homes and enjoy your new space. One of my favorite home organization tips is to make sure to label each bin, so everything has a home. Viola…you have a recipe for successful organization!
My number 1 rule to organizing anything is to take your time. Don’t try and complete a project in one day. Working for 15 minutes a day in your space is still classified as making progress. Progress takes time. These home organization tips will make it go faster because you have a good plan in place to get organized!
